It's a nightmare!

overcast 2 °C

We're off tomorrow evening so today is the day for last minute preparations and the dreaded task of packing. I've done many practice packs over the last couple of weeks and even the most successful have resulted in my bag bursting at the seams! Stephen has convinced me to leave my laptop at home and share his, which I think is sensible. He also wants me to get rid of one pair of shorts, my jeans, 2 top and one dress - but I don't think that's going to happen!

So here are all the clothes I'm taking for a 6 month trip:

  • 1 pair of jeans
  • 1 pair of hiking trousers (the type that can be unzipped to become shorts)
  • 2 pairs of shorts (one denim, one linen)
  • 2 casual dresses
  • 1 pair of leggings
  • 3 t-shirts
  • 2 vest tops
  • 1 cardigan
  • 3 bras
  • 12 pairs of knickers
  • 2 bikinis (taking two is a bit unnecessary really, but it'll be nice to have a change!)
  • A multi-purpose scarf/sarong/shawl
  • Pyjamas
  • 4 pairs of shoes (flip flops, nice sandals, ballet pumps and hiking boots)

Is this too much? Probably! But I'm sure I'll manage to discard some things on the way when I realise they're unnecessary. It would be interesting if Stephen posted his list of clothes, it's probably about half the length!

The majority of places we're going are going to be pretty hot, so I've not factored in any clothes for cold weather. The exception is New Zealand, where it'll be about 13 degrees, so I guess I'll have to pick up a couple of jumpers while I'm there and discard them when we leave, but that's too far off to start thinking about yet! Bring on the sunshine first!

Here is the bag plus the pile of all my stuff beforehand...

...and here is the final result! Woo hoo!

9 days to go!

So it's 9 days before we head off on our adventure and I'm feeling pretty prepared - I've done a practice pack and got everything I need. Stephen, on the other hand, is on holiday in Morocco returning only 3 days before we leave. If I only I could be that laid back!

Our travels will start off in a nice relaxed way - visiting my uncle who lives in Abu Dhabi. So we'll have a nice time relaxing and sightseeing and preparing ourselves for when the real excitement begins.

Hopefully I'll find the time to update with photos and blog posts as we go along!
